Coach Kim Sang-sik, who took the helm of the Vietnamese national soccer team, shouted “royalty” and “sacrifice” in his inauguration.
Coach Kim Sang-sik took the helm of the Vietnamese national soccer team on the 3rd and held an official inaugural press conference at the Vietnam Football Association on the 6th. On the day, Kim said, “First of all, I want to talk about loyalty. This is a word that explains my soccer life. My favorite word is ‘No player is greater than the team.’ Throughout my career, I sacrificed and ran for the team. “After becoming a coach, I had a hard time, but I was able to manage and motivate and achieve together with superstars. I hope that players will have loyalty through healthy competition,” he said.
“My football philosophy is ‘football that wins with winning mentality’. We need the will to win every game and the attitude to challenge ourselves with self-sacrifice. If all the team members fight as one, we will get the results we want,” he added.
Kim Sang-sik’s national team will participate in international competitions from May 2024 to March 2026. Kim Sang-sik, like Korean-born leaders who recently advanced to Southeast Asia, will lead both the A team and the U-23 team.
Coach Kim Sang-sik’s first stage will be a series of matches against the Philippines and Iraq in the second round of Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA North and Central America World Cup, which will be held during the A match in June. Vietnam is third in Group F (1 win, 3 points), and it must surpass second-place Indonesia (7 points) to advance to the final qualifying round.
The Vietnam Football Association (VFF) said, “Coach Kim Sang-sik has shown an outstanding level and dedicated competence in Korea, Asia, and the best competitions. Based on his experience and achievements in his coaching career, I believe he will build an effective style of play in Vietnam and improve his strength.”
According to VFF, Kim Sang-sik said in an interview with local media, “I think Korean and Vietnamese players have similar thoughts. We will coordinate well with the association so that we can build a national team with the best players.” 메이저사이트
“Park Hang-seo is a hero to Vietnamese soccer fans and the people. I always respect him, and I want to go the same way as Park,” Kim said after receiving a bouquet of flowers from his senior coach, Park Hang-seo.
Coach Kim Sang-sik served as a flying coach and senior coach for Jeonbuk Hyundai in 2013 and took the helm in 2021. Since taking the helm, he also led the team to win the K League 1 title and the Korea Cup the following year. However, he took the helm in May due to his poor performance in 2023. After taking the helm of Vietnam this time, he returned to the field for the first time in a year.
