Samsung snaps a nasty losing streak with a solid batting performance.
The Samsung Lions won their ninth game of the season against the KT Wiz of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League 7-5 at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea, on April 18.
Samsung snapped a five-game 메이저사이트 losing streak and a six-game road losing streak to improve to 26-36 on the season. KT, on the other hand, saw its five-game winning streak snapped, falling to 26 wins, two draws and 34 losses.
The home team KT started Anthony Alford (designated hitter), Jeong Jun-young (left fielder), Moon Sang-chul (first baseman), Jang Sung-woo (catcher), Hwang Jae-gyun (third baseman), Lee Ho-yeon (second baseman), Bae Jeong-dae (center fielder), Ahn Chi-young (right fielder), and Jang Jun-won (shortstop). Park Byung-ho was ruled out due to an ankle injury and Kim Sang-soo due to a throat infection.
Samsung responded with Kim Ji-chan (second base)-Kim Hyun-joon (center field)-Jose Pirela (left field)-Kang Min-ho (designated hitter)-Kim Jae-sung (first base)-Kim Tae-gun (catcher)-Ryu Seung-min (right field)-Lee Jae-hyun (shortstop)-Kim Young-woong (third base).
Samsung took the lead in the first inning. Tablesetters Kim Ji-chan and Kim Hyun-jun drew a walk and a single to left to put runners on first and second with no outs. Jose Pirela’s straight hit to the second baseman threw out Kim Ji-chan, but Kim kept the offense alive with a stolen base, and Kang Min-ho hit a leadoff single after a nine-pitch at-bat.
KT fought back in the second inning. Jang Jang-woo and Lee Ho-yeon singled, and Choi Jae-dae drew a full-count walk to put runners on the corners. Ahn Chi-young then hit an infield single and Jang Jun-won followed with an RBI single to left field to make it 2-1.’
Samsung didn’t go down without a fight. In the top of the fifth, Lee Jae-hyun led off with a single to right and a stolen base. Kim Ji-chan followed with a single to left and a stolen base, putting runners on second and third with Kim Hyun-joon delivering the tying sacrifice fly and Pirela delivering the game-winning RBI single. Samsung then extended the lead to 5-2 with two outs after Kang Min-ho singled up the middle and Kim Jae-sung doubled to center field.
Samsung’s lead was short-lived. In the top of the fifth inning, after Jang Sung-woo walked and Hwang Jae-gyun singled, KT tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI triple by Lee Ho-yeon and an RBI single by Choi Jae-dae.
The Samsung bats came alive again in the sixth inning. One out later, Lee Jae-hyun doubled to deep right field. Pinch-hitter Kim Dong-yeop flied out to center field, but Kim Ji-chan singled to center field to tie the game at 5-5. It was the game-winning hit.
Samsung drove in the winning run in the eighth with a leadoff double by Lee Jae-hyun and a sacrifice bunt by Kim Ho-jae, followed by an infield single by Kim Ji-chan.
Samsung was backed by Moon Yong-ik, Yang Chang-seop, Kim Daewoo, 메이저놀이터순위 Lee Seung-hyun (R) and Lee Seung-hyun (L) after starter Choi Chae-heung was tagged for five runs on 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 4⅔ innings. KT was also shaken by starter Uhm Sang-baek, who gave up five runs on nine hits in five innings with one walk and six strikeouts. Lee Jong-ju took the loss. Lee Ho-yeon’s four-hit blast was the only bright spot in the loss.
Samsung will take a day off before returning home for a three-game midweek series against Kiwoom on the 20th. KT welcomes Lotte at home.
