While several teams have already hired a new manager, the San Diego Padres seem to need a little more time. A new candidate has emerged.

Former Los Angeles Angels manager Phil Nevin has been interviewing for the job, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a local San Diego newspaper.

This brings the total number of San Diego head coaching candidates to five. Nevin joins Mike Shields, Ryan Flaherty, Benji Gill, and David Ross.
Mike Shields and Ryan Flaherty were initially considered for the San Diego head coaching job. Gill and Carlos Mendoza were added to the mix.

After Mendoza was hired as the new manager of the New York Mets, the number of candidates for the San Diego job was reduced to three, but Ross and Nevin were added to the list. 보스토토

Nevin joined the coaching staff in 2017 as the San Francisco Giants’ first base coach, and has also coached with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels.
He became the Angels’ acting manager after the firing of Joe Maddon midway through the 2022 season, and signed a permanent contract ahead of this season.

However, the Angels declined to exercise Nevin’s team option after this season, citing poor performance and other reasons.

Kim’s team, San Diego, failed to make the postseason this season. It will be interesting to see who takes the reins as the Angels move forward with their search for a new manager.
