The Toronto Blue Jays have designated veteran starting pitcher Anthony Bass, 36, for assignment to the major league roster.

The Blue Jays announced on Tuesday 메이저사이트 that they have recalled Mitch White from the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury and designated Bass for assignment.

Bass can either go through waivers and become a free agent or remain with the organization as a minor leaguer. The former is more likely.

The past two weeks have been eventful for Bass.

He became controversial in late May when he shared an anti-gay video on Instagram. In the video, he suggested boycotting businesses that support LGBTQ people, claiming that supporting homosexuality is a “demonic act”.

This happened just ahead of the club’s Pride night, and in response to the controversy, he read a perfunctory 35-second apology, which only served to fuel the fire.

As public opinion worsened, he met with reporters again on Sept. 9 to address the situation. While he apologized for the incident, he made it clear that he had no intention of changing his beliefs.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins announced that Bass would be honored with a commemorative baseball on Pride Day, and that seemed to be the end of the matter.

But a day later, the Blue Jays dropped him from their plans for the season.

If Bass was a big part of the team, this was not the way to go. In 20 innings over 22 games this season, he has a 4.95 ERA with three home runs, nine walks, and 19 strikeouts. He hasn’t been called upon in any big situations, with only one save.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins told local media outlets, including Sportsnet, that the decision was strictly baseball-related.
