Elina Svitolina (UKRA) has won her first Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour event singles title since giving birth.

Svitolina defeated Anna Blinkova 안전놀이터 (No. 56-Russia) 2 and 0 in the singles final on the final day of the WTA Tour’s Strasbourg International in Strasbourg, France, today (Aug. 28).

With the win, Svitolina claimed her 17th tour singles title, a year and nine months after winning the Chicago Open in August 2021 before giving birth.

Her prize money for the win was 29,760 euros, or about $40 million.

Svitolina married fellow tennis player Gaelle Monfis (FRA) and became a mom last October.

Svitolina returned to the tour in April of this year and came into the tournament ranked 508th in the world in singles.

The 508th-ranked player to win a tour singles title is the lowest-ranked player to do so in 14 years, since Kim Clijsters (BEL) reached the top of the US Open in 2009 without a world ranking at the time.

With her win, Svitolina improved her singles world ranking to 192.

Svitolina peaked at No. 3 in 2017, and her best major singles results were quarterfinal appearances at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2019.

Svitolina will enter the French Open, which begins today (Aug. 28) in Paris, France, with a Protected Ranking (PR).
