The Los Angeles Dodgers made an investment that will go down in the history of the U.S. Major League Baseball ahead of this season. It signed a 10-year contract with FA’s biggest fish Shohei Ohtani at a total of 700 million U.S. dollars, the highest in the history of professional sports in the U.S., and even pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was held by the team for a total of 325 million dollars over the past 12 years. It was the highest ever paid by a pitcher.

The Dodgers didn’t stop there and hired Tyler Glasnow to reinforce its starting lineup. Shortly after acquiring ace Glassnow through a 2-2 trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, the Dodgers signed a five-year extension of 136.5 million U.S. dollars. It is true that the amount of investment in Ohtani and Yamamoto was so great that Glassnow was not highlighted.

When I opened the lid, it turned out that Glasnow was the real recruit. Glasnow is a Dodgers ace, with four wins and one loss, 37 innings, 44 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.92 in the six games he played this season. He ranks first in three categories of wins, innings, and strikeouts in the National League, and ranks 11th in ERA.

Glasnow also displayed stellar pitching at a home game against the New York Mets on Tuesday (Korea time). While holding out the eight innings with 101 pitches, he allowed seven hits, no four outs and 10 strikeouts to lead the team to a 10-0 victory. He mixed fastballs (55 pitches), curves (27), sliders (18) and sinkers (1) to cook for Mets hitters. His ball power was so good that his fastball speed reached 98.5 miles (about 159 kilometers) and his average speed reached 96.3 miles (about 155 kilometers), and his slider speed averaged 90.9 miles (about 146 kilometers).

What stands out is his ability to strike out. Glasnow struck out 14 against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday and struck out 10 on the same day, recording double-digit strikeouts twice this year alone. It was his first time pitching in eight innings. 핑크알바

The Major League’s website MLB.com said, “Glasnow’s eight-inning pitching is the first time since May 2021. In May 2021, he pitched eight innings twice, marking his career high. He also became the first Dodgers starter to pitch eight innings since Clayton Kershaw, who played against the Los Angeles Angels on July 16, 2022.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the game, “Glasnow made a strong impression in a variety of ways today. Today (on Tuesday) we needed to give our bullpen a break because it was overloaded. Glassnow gave our bullpen a chance to take two days off (until Sunday’s rest day). That’s huge.”
