“The appointment of director Hong Myung-bo has not been confirmed illegally.”
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held an interim briefing on the results of the Korea Football Association (KFA) audit at the annex of the Seoul Government Complex in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 2nd.
In July, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism found a problem after conducting a basic investigation into the KFA, converted it to an audit, and is investigating related suspicions.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, “KFA did not follow the procedures properly, with technical director Lee Im-saeng, who was not authorized to appoint director Hong Myung-bo, finally recommending candidates for the director and the interview process being conducted opaque and unfair.” The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism judged that the written resolution of the board of directors, which is the procedure for appointing Hong, was only made “formally” after the appointment and announcement of the director.
“The audit did not confirm that Hong committed illegal acts to appoint him,” said Choi Hyun-joon, an inspector general who served as a Briefer. “This makes it difficult to judge that Hong’s coach is invalid,” Choi said. “Of course, it is difficult to overlook the issue. We hope that the KFA will make a judgment on its own. The KFA should decide how to correct procedural flaws. It is difficult for us to directly comment on the matter.”
In particular, regarding the appointment of Hong, Lee Im-saeng, general director of the technical headquarters, who was not authorized by regulations, emphasized that the recommendation and interview process of the final director candidate was unclear and unfair.
However, in the process, he said, “There have been no allegations of favoritism towards Hong.” This means that he accepted the KFA’s intention to put him first and offered to take the helm, but that he did not unfairly intervene at all.
In particular, Jung Hae-sung, former chairman of the Korea Power Reinforcement Committee, put Hong Myung-bo, David Wagner and Gus Poet on the first to third list of final candidates shortly after the 10th meeting and reported them to Chairman Chung, but he mentioned that Chairman Chung conducted face-to-face interviews with foreign candidates.
This is because legitimacy issues arose when former Chairman Chung Hae-sung expressed his intention to resign, saying, “I felt the limitations of my role,” and director Lee Im-saeng took over the appointment work and appointed Hong. 먹튀검증
“According to his (Jeong Hae-sung), he resigned because he felt limited in his role as chairman (Jeong) asked him to interview a foreign leader again and go to Europe for further consideration. If the recommendation was completed, the KFA could negotiate, but such an act did not take place,” Choi said.
“If (Chairman Chung) had instructed Hong, who was the first priority, to proceed with the negotiations, there would have been no problem,” he said, stressing that Hong’s nomination was not true.
Choi also said, “The independence of the KFA should be respected. It is a professional field. We look forward to making a judgment based on public opinion and common sense.”
