Suwon FC Women’s defender Shim Seo-yeon (35) won the championship and made a better ‘finale’ than anyone else.

Shim Seo-yeon contributed to the victory by keeping the back door open until the end in the second match of the 2024 Debelon WK League championship game held at Hwacheon Sports Park on Sunday. Suwon FC lost to Hwacheon KSPO 1-2 in the second match, but laughed 3-2 overall in the first and second matches.

Shim was already expected to retire, so it was his last competition. Moreover, Shim Seo-yeon, who won the title in his first year as a member of Suwon City Facilities Management Corporation in 2010, the predecessor of Suwon FC, finished with another title. After Shim was confirmed to win, she shed tears.

After the game, Shim said, “I feel good because I was able to finish with a victory. I thought it was the end, but I just thought, ‘You can’t give up’ and ‘You can’t lose,'” Shim said. “It has a different meaning. When I joined the team, I won the championship and the retirement game. I’m the first person to win two stars, so it’s all the more meaningful.”

Shim Seo-yeon decided to retire because of her poor knees. Park Gil-young, manager of Suwon FC Women, reportedly dissuaded Shim from retiring. “The situation is not good because my knees hurt. I decided (to retire) because I felt pressure and risk to do another year,” Shim said. “I told the coach that I would not be able to retire unless I was on my knees,” he said with a smile. “The coach asked me why I decided to retire alone even before the playoffs. That’s why I told him so strongly.”

Shim Seo-yeon has been listed not only in the WK League but also in the A-team. She played 92 A matches. “There were many good and bad days,” Shim said, looking back on her career. “I think the last one is important, but I think it will be the most memorable one because I finished it well.” 메이저사이트

Moreover, Shim Seo-yeon suffered her mother’s death in May. Immediately after winning the title, she recalled her mother who passed away to heaven. Shim Seo-yeon said, “If my mother was here, I think she would have come to (Hwacheon). The first thing that came to mind was my mother, and I think she would have been watching with joy and pride. So I have no regrets.”

Shim Seo-yeon is no longer a “player.” She is moving on to a different life. “I want to have a break. I will spend a lot of time for myself,” Shim said. “I want to spend time that I have not taken care of due to injury. I will prepare for my second life. I think the soccer community will not withdraw even if I do other things.”
