Incheon United’s iconic striker Mugosa (32) showed tears at the relegation. At a time when he is most likely to become the top scorer, he even expressed his desire to exchange his stay with the top scorer.
Incheon United lost 1-2 at home against Hana Citizen in the 37th round of Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at 4:30 p.m. on the 10th at Incheon Football Stadium.
With the victory, the team has 45 points and decided to stay in the K League 1 irrespective of the outcome of one remaining match. On the other hand, Incheon only had 36 points to confirm its first relegation.
Incheon striker Mugosa, who met reporters after the match, said, “I feel very sorry for the fans. I am ashamed of Incheon’s relegation to the second division. Incheon is a team that should be in the K-League 1. It is all the more so because of the fans.”
“I can’t believe it. I’ve been in Incheon for seven years and I have many good memories of playing in the Champions League. I’m sorry to the fans again, but I have to accept it,” he said.
Mugosa has been active in Incheon since 2018, briefly leaving the summer transfer market in 2022 and then returning to the summer transfer market in 2023 and playing seven seasons in Incheon, making him the highest scorer in Incheon’s club history.
When asked about his tears in front of Incheon supporters after the game, he said, “Right. I was a little teary. Team Incheon is not just a team to me, it is a part of my life and family. It is the most difficult time since I came to Incheon.”
As the team is demoted to the second division, there will naturally be significant changes in its squad. In particular, there are many first division teams that want outstanding players like Mugosa. When asked about his future, he said, “I have a contract until next year. When I returned from Vissel Kobe, I said, “I will finish my career in Incheon.” Let’s wait and see. Of course, I have a contract and I want to lead Incheon back to the K League 1, but I can’t guarantee what will happen,” he said.
“Incheon 안전놀이터 is a big city and has amazing fans. It is not a team that will be in the second division. We should strive for direct promotion next year,” Mugosa said.
With 15 goals to play in the final match in the K League 1, Mugosa is highly likely to become the top scorer. When asked about his desire to become the top scorer, Mugosa said, “Now is not the time to think about it. If possible, I would like to change the top scorer and the remaining member of the K League 1,” adding, “My initial intention was to become the top scorer and stay there. However, now, I just want to do my best in the final match against Daegu FC without paying attention to the title.”
