FC Anyang (owner Choi Dae-ho) led by manager Yoo Byung-hoon has 17 wins, six draws and nine losses (57 points) in 32 matches of Hana Bank’s K League 2 2024. The team is making all-out efforts to advance to the K League 1 stage for the first time since its foundation. This season’s No. 1 ranking in the K League 2 (division 2) will move directly to the K League 1 next season. However, contrary to the enthusiasm of the players, the team is not fully prepared to join the K League 1 stage yet.
The problem occurred in a home game against the Busan I’Park at Anyang Sports Complex on Tuesday. On the day, some officials who entered the stadium wearing VIP cards violated the K-League business area without permission. According to the auxiliary facilities of the stadium in Chapter 3, Article 3 of the articles of association of the Korea Professional Football Association, so-called business areas such as the stadium’s supervisor’s seat, referee’s evaluation seat, TSG Technical Committee’s seat, and record seat are required.
No one in the club restrained VIPs. VIPs had a drinking party in the K-League business area. They even cursed at the referee and the opponent team’s player. Eventually, when he got drunk, he made an ugly face that caused inconvenience to people around him. A club official who belatedly confirmed the situation managed to restrain him.
An Anyang team official said, “He was wearing a VIP card. I don’t think they came in strangely (unfairly). He was drunk and said, “You shouldn’t sit in an empty seat in the business area.” I will not let this happen from the next game.”
If the club had clearly separated their respective districts in the first place, there would have been no problem. However, the club made the boundaries ambiguous because the districts were ‘collaborating’. Also, the club was not even aware of the personnel who wore VIP cards. The identity of the VIP who flirted with the business district on this day was not identified. The club identified them as part of the invitation. The Korea Professional Football Association (KFA) took corrective action after finding out about the situation. “The best way is to separate the zones completely. However, if the stadium cannot be completely divided due to its structure, the government requested the separation of the movement lines by installing signboards in the seats. We will submit an improvement plan by July 31 and then confirm the improvement work,” a source at the KFA said.
Anyang is famous for its soccer fever. Coach Yoo and his players are also running for promotion thanks to fans’ support. However, the team has not been able to properly observe even the most basic operating regulations.
