Chung Mong-kyu, chairman of the Korea Football Association, officially declared his bid for the fourth term.

At a press conference at the Ponyi Foundation building in central Seoul on Wednesday, Chung said he would run for the 55th president of the Korea Football Association. Chung suggested restoring trust and communication through drastic reforms, enhancing international competitiveness, and completing the Cheonan Football Center and the promotion system as his core pledges.

Chairman Chung said, “I wanted to let go of it, but as a person who has been agonizing with many people over the past 12 years and has made efforts to develop Korean soccer, I thought this was not about fulfilling my responsibilities.” He added, “I will accept the criticism of what I have done wrong without adding or subtracting, and use it as nourishment for the development of the association,” and added, “I will devote my energy to the future of Korean soccer with a stronger sense of responsibility than anyone else.” Regarding the conflict with the government, he also said, “As there were problems arising from misunderstandings, I will persuade the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism well.” 토토사이트

As if conscious of the negative public opinion about the fourth term challenge, many of the pledges were aimed at restoring the trust of the people and soccer players, including personnel reform of the association’s executive branch, expansion of electors, transparent management disclosure and securing communication channels in each field. Based on the completion of the Cheonan Football Center and the Korean-style promotion system, he said he will strengthen his international competitiveness to achieve the quarterfinals of the 2026 North-China World Cup, the 2026 Asian Games gold medal, the 2027 Asian Cup victory, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics medal.

The election will take place on January 8 next year. It is a three-way race between Chung, Heo Jeong-moo, former chairman of Hana Citizen’s board of directors in Daejeon, and Shin Mun-seon, a visiting professor of sports record analysis at Myongji University. Chung was elected as the 52nd chairman for the first time in 2013, and has been serving as the head of Korean soccer until now as he won his third term in office.
