Professional soccer K League 1 Gangwon FC will challenge a new history. Gangwon is aiming for the best performance in the club’s history by joining Final A.
The team won 3-1 in away matches between Incheon United and Hana Bank in the 33rd round of the K League 1 2024 at Incheon Football Stadium on Sunday. With the victory, the team entered the final round in third place. Gangwon, which had created a sensation since the beginning of this season, has advanced to the fourth round of Final A through early October after overcoming hot summer.
With no win in the last five games, Gangwon scored multiple goals against Incheon, the lowest ranking team, for the first time in a long time. With 58 goals scored in 33 games this season, the team has dominated the K-League with strong attack strength. Coach Yoon Jeong-hwan, who is leading the team, has been steadily preparing since the winter training, showing a completely different performance from the last season, and is leading the team’s sensation.
Coach Yoon Jeong-hwan, who attended the press conference after the match against Incheon, did not hide his joy at the victory after a long time. “I told the players to go back to their initial goal at a time when their winless streak is getting prolonged,” Yoon said. “I want to rewrite the history of Gangwon Province, even if not a championship. I will prepare with the players so that they can try again in the final round.”
The history of Gangwon, as coach Yoon Jeong-hwan says, is that it advanced to the AFC Champions League. Since its foundation in 2008, Gangwon has never performed in Asia. Its best performances were in sixth place in the 2017, 2019 and 2022 seasons. However, if the team currently ranks third and continues its good performance through to the final round, it will be able to achieve the best record ever. 스포츠토토
Gangwon’s stellar performance was also attributed to Kim Jin-tae’s generous support. Kim Jin-tae, who visited all home games in Gangwon Province except for overseas schedules this season, gave congratulatory messages to the team after winning the match against Incheon.
“Congratulations on Kangwon FC’s wonderful victory in the final round of the K-League regular round and advance to the top split (final A) with the best performance ever. Thanks to Kangwon FC, we had a happy time all season,” he said. “Now, there is a historical challenge to the final round and the bigger stage. We ask for your generous support for the last fruit of Gangwon FC. I will support you with intuition until the end,” he said, asking for the team’s propaganda and enthusiastic support from fans.
