National soccer team coach Hong Myung-bo was found to have violated the rules of the Korean Sports Council amid controversy over his unclear appointment process.
According to an MBC report on the 23rd, the Sports Ethics Center pointed out Hong Myung-bo’s appointment process in a review report, saying, “If there are no laws or special regulations, we must obtain approval from the Korean Sports Council when selecting leaders.”
He also said that he took the position of coach even though he did not have a “second-class certificate of professional sports instructor,” a condition for the leader of the Korean Sports Council.
The Korea Football Association explained the non-approval of the Korea Sports Association, citing internal regulations that “the board can appoint it with the recommendation of the power reinforcement committee.”
As for the coach’s qualification, Hong said, “Coach Hong Myung-bo has an international certificate of the Asian Football Confederation.” He also claimed that a professional sports leader’s qualification is not a mandatory requirement and that the application of the rule has been suspended until 2027.
However, the Sports Ethics Center argues that “the association’s internal regulations cannot exceed the regulations of the Korea Sports Council, which is a high-ranking organization, and that soccer alone cannot make exceptions unlike other sports just because it has an international license.”
Meanwhile, Hong Myung-bo will appear at the National Assembly today (24th) at 10 a.m. along with Chung Myung-kyu, chairman of the Korea Football Association, and Lee Im-saeng, technical director. 메이저놀이터
