He proposed a broadcast on the open debate of candidates for the presidential election of the Korea Football Association.
Chairman Chung Mong-gyu held a press conference to run for the 55th president of the Korea Football Association at the conference hall on the first floor of the Ponyjeong Foundation building on the 19th.
Chairman Chung Mong-gyu said, “I am here to challenge the president of the Korea Football Association once again. As someone who has worked hard to develop Korean soccer for the past 12 years, I thought that resigning from the chairmanship is not fulfilling my responsibilities.”
He then bowed his head, saying, “I will accept criticism of what I and the Korea Football Association have done wrong and use it as nourishment for development.”
He said, “I will devote my energy to the future of Korean soccer with a great sense of responsibility and a firm determination to solve the problem.”
At the same time, he reportedly promised four things: restoring trust in the Korea Football Association through drastic reforms, enhancing international competitiveness in Korean soccer, completing the Korea Football Center, and expanding the soccer base through the completion of the divisional promotion system.
Chairman Chung Mong-gyu is said to have expressed his willingness to gain trust through specific achievements after taking office. His goal is to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2026 North-China World Cup, the 2026 Nagoya-Aichi Summer Asian Games, the 2027 Saudi Arabian Asian Cup, and the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics medal.
Chairman Chung Mong-gyu vowed, “We will create a soccer ecosystem where everyone is together by sharing the knowledge, resources, achievements and opportunities of the association for the development of Korean soccer.”
Chairman Chung Mong-gyu has not declared officially, but he has shown his willingness to seek a fourth term. He was elected as an executive member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in May, and was busy holding the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Awards in Seoul.
In a recent questionnaire, Chairman Chung Mong-kyu said, “I can’t agree with the fact that all football activities are for a second term, and history will evaluate it eventually.”
Chairman Chung Mong-gyu officially declared his candidacy for the presidential election of the Korea Football Association and announced the roadmap through a press conference.
Chairman Chung Mong-gyu was in favor of the public debate proposed by Shin Moon-sun.
