The incident is getting bigger with Arsenal Legend coach Arsen Wenger also participating in the war.
British media ‘Sports Bible’ reported on the 25th (Korea Standard Time) that “Former Arsenal coach Arsen Wenger attended a hearing on Manchester City’s 115 Premier League charges and called for a change in British football’s financial fair play (FFP) rules.”
City’s so-called trial of the century, which began on Sept. 16, will last about 10 weeks, with rulings expected in early 2025. The charges mainly relate to a nine-year period from 2009 to 2018, which the club strongly denies, with Manchester City accused of various violations of the rules.
Manchester City are accused of failing to provide accurate financial information, failing to provide precise details about the payments to players and managers, violating revenue and sustainability regulations (PSR), failing to comply with UEFA regulations, including financial fair play (FFP), and failing to cooperate with Premier League investigations.
Wenger, the former Arsenal manager who now serves as FIFA’s global head of football development, appeared on “Bean Sports” to talk about the ongoing hearing. Wenger questioned the Premier League’s FFP rules and thought the league could be at a disadvantage compared to other competitions.
“I think the rules of financial fair play in the Premier League today have to change, because they now face competition with other leagues that have changed the rules of financial fair play,” Wenger said.
He continued, “It is impossible for a club like Manchester City to be charged with 115 different charges in a football season at the moment. I don’t think so. The Premier League has already lost its first case against Manchester City. I can’t judge them because I don’t know Manchester City. However, 115 different charges against a football club today seem like we are in the international administration.” 먹튀검증
Wenger also said, “We need to change the static fair play rules and make them simpler. They [Man City owners] came in, but they never played financial fair play, and neither did Chelsea. Chelsea bought my players at Arsenal, and Chelsea didn’t have any financial fair play rules, so I bought the players I wanted.”
