The K-League of Professional Football Association (K-League) is approaching to surpass 3 million spectators (Cubs. 1 and 2) for two consecutive seasons. It is faster than the previous season.
According to data from the Korea Professional Football Association on Tuesday, the cumulative number of spectators in the first and second divisions so far this season stands at 2.98 million. If more than 19,94 spectators enter the K League 1 35th round and 6th round of K League 2 36th round, which are scheduled this weekend, the number will exceed 3 million.
Last season, the K-League surpassed 3 million spectators in a single season for the first time since it started counting paid spectators in the 38th round, the last game of the first division. The number stood at 3,011,509. The K-League is highly likely to reach the 35th round this season, which is even hotter than before.
FC Seoul has been leading the box office success for two consecutive seasons with over 400,000 spectators at home games. It has attracted 434,426 people from 16 home games so far this season. With 27,152 spectators on average, it is now approaching the era of 30,000 dreams.
Seoul recruited Jesse Lingard, a top star player in the English Premier League this season, and has achieved “two rabbits” in performance and box office success. According to the Seoul club, 33 percent of the total spectators are aged between 25 and 34 years old. In addition, 75 percent of the respondents said it was because of Lingard as the deciding factor in their first visit to the stadium.
Ulsan, which is aiming to win its third consecutive K-League 1 title, is also breaking the limits of local teams and making a long-term box office success. According to the Korea Professional Federation, the average attendance of 11 K-League teams increased compared to the previous season, excluding Daejeon Hana Citizen. The number of K-League teams increased the most in the order of Seoul (4519), Jeonbuk Hyundai (2,635) and Gangwon FC (2,545).
A total of 786,544 spectators entered the K-League 2 as of the end of the 35th round. Last season, there were 558,432 spectators at the end of the regular season.
