An audit by the Korea Football Association by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism revealed the authority of Chung Mong-gyu, president of the Korea Football Association. It has been confirmed that Chung intervened in the appointment of former German coach Jurgen Klinsmann and Coach Hong Myung-bo even though he was not authorized to do so.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism briefed on the results of an audit on the appointment of a national soccer coach of the Korea Football Association at the annex of the Seoul Government Complex in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 2nd.

In July, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism conducted a basic investigation into the Korea Football Association and found problems and converted them to audits to investigate related suspicions.

With the final audit results scheduled to be released at the end of this month, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism first announced the results of the audit of the process of appointing the national soccer coach of the Korea Football Association, which even asked questions about pending issues at the National Assembly.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the results of the audit that looked into not only the appointment of Hong but also the appointment of his predecessor, former coach Klinsmann.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Chairman Chung neutralized the function of the National Power Reinforcement Committee while conducting interviews with candidates for the final director.

Choi Hyun-joon, the inspector general of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, explained, “In January 2023, Michael Mueller, chairman of the Korea Football Association, and the Korea Football Association had already prepared a list of candidates for the coach without a power reinforcement committee being formed and contacted them through agents. At the first meeting, the members of the Korea Football Association asked the Korea Football Association to delegate all authority to the chairman.”

“Afterwards, the first interview for the five candidates was conducted by Mueller and the second interview for the two final candidates was conducted by Chairman Chung,” he said. “A member of the Power Reinforcement Committee was informed of the results at the second meeting held after signing a contract with Klinsmann. He was excluded from the process of appointing a coach from the beginning.”

In the past, Chairman Chung said at the press conference for the dismissal of former coach Klinsman, “There seem to be many misunderstandings in the process of appointing coach Klinsman. It was carried out in the same process as when former coach Paulo Bento (Portugal) was appointed,” explaining that he took a normal process, but the investigation by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism confirmed that it was not true.

Chairman Chung’s intervention in the appointment of a coach was also revealed to have taken place during Hong’s time.

The Power Reinforcement Committee, which was formed in the process of selecting a successor to former coach Klinsmann, proceeded with the appointment under the system of former Chairman Chung Hae-sung of the Power Reinforcement Committee. 안전놀이터

After the 10th round of meetings, Chairman Chung chose Hong Myung-bo, David Wagner, and Gus Foyet as the top three finalists. Chairman Chung reported this to Chairman Chung, who reportedly ordered face-to-face interviews of foreign candidates.

Inspector Choi said, “If the recommendation was completed, the Korea Football Association could negotiate, but it didn’t,” adding, “If coach Hong, who was the first priority, had ordered the negotiations to proceed, there would have been no problem.”
