French women’s national team coach Erbernard was mentioned as a candidate for the next head coach of the Korean national team.
French media Le Quiff said on the 30th (Korea Standard Time), “Five teams, including Korea, Poland, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Morocco, are interested in coach Renard.”
Renard’s contract with the French Football Association expires after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“I have conveyed my desire to leave the French soccer association after the Olympics,” he told a press conference earlier this week. “I have the 2026 World Cup in my mind. I hope it will be my third World Cup as a coach for the men’s national team. This is my personal motivation.”
L’Quiff said, “There will be no shortage of teams that want coach Renard,” citing five teams, including South Korea, as potential destinations.
Renard is a French-born coach who is well-known in Africa. He rose to fame by winning the Africa Cup of Nations as coach of Zambia in 2012 and the Cordivore in 2015.
The 2018 FIFA Russia World Cup is the first World Cup for Renard. Renard, who led Morocco, lost the group league but lost 0-1 to Portugal, the favorite candidate, and tied with Spain 2-2 to receive favorable reviews.
After the 2019 Nations Cup, Renard declared a new challenge on social media with the words “I don’t think I’ll work in Africa” and took the helm of Saudi Arabia.
Coach Renard, who led Saudi Arabia to the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar, created a stir in the finals. He beat Argentina’s national team led by Lionel Messi 2-1 in the first Group C match. Argentina lost to an Asian team for the first time in World Cup history, and its 36 A-match unbeaten streak ended because of Saudi Arabia.
It is not the first time that Renard has been connected to the Korean national team. Even before Paulo Bento and Jurgen Klinsman were appointed, they were mentioned as candidates for the coach. In particular, before Bento was appointed, he was the top candidate for the Korean national team coach, but Renard reportedly refused.
The Korean national soccer team, which parted ways with Paulo Bento who achieved the goal of making it to the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has appointed Klinsmann as its successor. The team has given the team a four-year contract with the goal of winning the Asian Cup and advancing to the finals of the 2026 World Cup in North and Central America. 핑크알바
However, Korea was eliminated by Jordan 0-2 in the semifinals after a series of poor matches at the Asian Cup. This was not the end. The British Sun reported that Lee Kang-in and Son Heung-min had physical fights ahead of the semifinal match. Critics say that Klinsmann lacked tactical capabilities and failed to manage the team, prompting the Korea Football Association to choose to dismiss him for the first time in a year.
Then, on the 20th of last month, a new power reinforcement committee was formed to appoint a new coach to lead the Korean national soccer team.
