The South Korean national soccer team’s FIFA ranking has risen one notch in October.

FIFA released its FIFA rankings on Monday. Korea accumulated 17.32 FIFA ranking points to post 1589.93 points, moving up one notch from 23rd to 22nd.

South Korea won two straight A matches in October. South Korea won 2-0 away against Jordan in the third round of the final Asian qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North Korea and the U.S. thanks to consecutive goals by Lee Jae-sung and Oh Hyun-kyu.

With the victory over Jordan, South Korea has caught both birds with one stone. It avenged its 0-2 defeat in the semifinals of the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Qatar Asian Cup, which took place in February. It also brought down Jordan to the top of Group B.

After their victory over Jordan, South Korea gained momentum. South Korea won the fourth Group B match against Iraq, which was held at Yongin Mir Stadium on Saturday, 3-2. South Korea, which had been threatened with the lead in Group B, firmly maintained its No. 1 position by recording three wins and one draw through the victory over Iraq.

South Korea added 8.03 points with the away win over Jordan and 9.29 points with the 3-2 victory over Iraq to overtake Austria in 22nd place in the FIFA rankings. It was the first time in four months that South Korea ranked 22nd since June. It remained at 23rd in July and September. 스포츠토토

It is the third in Asia. Japan and Iran are ranked higher than Korea. Japan won against Saudi Arabia and added 5.49 points in the draw against Australia. Japan moved up to 15th, with Switzerland’s ranking dropping to 17th.

Iran maintained its 19th position. Japan, Iran, and Korea maintained their No. 1 ranking from Asia to No. 3. Korea was followed by Australia (24th), Qatar (46th), Iraq (56th), Uzbekistan (58th), Saudi Arabia (59th), Jordan (64th) and the United Arab Emirates (68th).

China dropped one more spot to 92nd place. After suffering a crushing defeat to Japan by 0-7 last month, China suffered a humiliating loss as it failed to win a single game until the third round. China secured its first win with a 2-1 victory over Indonesia, but could not prevent its FIFA ranking from dropping.

Argentina has firmly maintained its No. 1 ranking in the FIFA rankings. France, Spain, England, Brazil, and Belgium maintained the ranking from 2nd to 6th, while Portugal changed its ranking with the Netherlands to rank 7th and 8th, respectively. Italy also traded with Colombia to rank 9th.
